About the Play

The Night Before Christmas is based in part on the classic poem by Clement C. Moore, offering a comic and highly interactive twist on how the famous verse came to be written. Originally commissioner by the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre in 2012, this long one-act play features imaginative elements like cows turning into reindeer, toys coming to life, a visit from Santa Claus, and festive seasonal music.

Set in 1823 on the Moore family’s Manhattan estate, the play follows the Moores as they prepare a surprise for their children on Christmas Eve. The audience—especially children—is invited to participate, making this a truly engaging experience for the whole family.
