Albert White: A Beacon of Light at WMU

The annals of history have blatantly erased, dismissed, and discounted the contributions of Black Americans as contributing chief architects and builders of this nation’s cultural, social, and economic foundation.  Such omissions are an egregious form of racial injustice. One example is Albert White.  Born to enslaved parents in a rural community in Canton, Indiana, White was a highly skilled brick mason who built the Western State Normal School (later known as WMU) in Kalamazoo in 1905.
