Sunday Services Committee
The Sunday Services Committee meets monthly and the primary functions are to:
- Support the Minister in the creation of meaningful services which engage the entire congregation. We do this by discussing
- “to whom are the services available” … i.e. ages, abilities, etc
- what makes Sunday services meaningful and why do people spend their time at UUCC
- Ensure that appropriate speakers are present to fill the pulpit on Sundays when the Minister is not present
- Review the Services Schedule for accuracy
- Encourage suggestions from church members for lay speakers and topics
- Involve the congregation in our services through lay leadership, reading, acting and singing
- Build community by providing diversity in our services
- Identify and recruit lay leaders, both for days when the Minister or another speaker is in the pulpit and for organizing and conducting lay-led services
- Hold an annual lay leader training using our step-by-step guide (Lay Leader Guide) which includes sample wording for ease of performance
- Identify and recruit sound technicians for Sunday services
- Hold an annual sound technician training in conjunction with Lay Leader training
- Ensure that the newsletter editor and office administrator receive timely information about speakers, lay leaders and sermon topics
- Coordinate the elements of the service to create a meaningful, worshipful program
- Advise the Minister on worship-related matters
- Attend to housekeeping issues, such as the candles, supplies for the speaker, piano tuning, etc.
